Operation Enigma

In 1996 Twenty-six police forces across the country reopened more than 70 unsolved murder cases in order to investigate possible links. Detectives identified 21 potential “clusters” of connected crimes. A two-year investigation, codenamed Operation Enigma, examined 207 unsolved murders of women dating back to 1986 and found 72 of them needed “further analysis”.

Several cases that I worked on over my career were included in the Enigma review. At that time, the murders of Lin and Megan Russell  and Rachel Nickell were included. Some of the other cases I worked on remain unsolved.
